saison 3 The Hills

MTV is bringing viewers more of "The Hills."

The network has greenlighted a third season of the unscripted show, starring Lauren Conrad, with a 10-episode order. It's set to debut in the summer.

The news comes after the second-season finale of "Hills," which is currrently MTV's top-rated show, at 10 p.m. Monday. Following the success of the live "The Hills After Show" on Monday night, MTV is planning to schedule another live telecast after the third-season finale.

Season 2 outperformed the first season in total viewers (up 9% to average 2.7 million viewers), persons 12-24 (up 15% to 1.7 million) and persons 12-34 (up 8% to 2.2 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. MTV said the second season of the show was consistently the most-watched program in its time period among 12-24 across all of television.

The Season 2 finale also bested the Aug. 2 first-season closer in total viewers (up from 2.4 million to 2.9 million), 12-24 (up from 1.4 million to 1.7 million) and 12-34 (up from 2 million to 2.3 million). It also won its time period among 12-24 across all of cable.

In addition, MTV.com delivered nearly 18 million show-related streams, including nearly 1 million live "After Show" streams, while "Virtual Hills," introduced shortly after Season 2 began, and its sister site "Virtual Laguna Beach" have more than 600,000 registered users.

"The success of 'The Hills' ' second season illustrates our strategy to engage viewers across all screens and to give fans the ability to stay connected to the cast and their stories when they want and where they want," MTV president of entertainment and programming Lois Curren said. "The approach we've taken with 'The Hills' reaffirms that our audience is embracing the touchpoints we've created for them to stay immersed in the shows they love."

"Hills," which was spun off of MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," centers on Conrad, who works as an intern at Teen Vogue while attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, and her group of friends. It was created by Adam DiVello, who executive produces with Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley and Sean Travis.
